Kimoni Badminton Academy
Tosses Off in April
March 29, 2006
by Emma Mina
Barely a year ago when Kimoni reached the Philippine shores, all of its efforts have been geared towards addressing the growing clamor of the local badminton community from quality badminton apparels, gears and footwear to tournaments of worth. And in no time, Kimoni Philippines, spearheaded by its Chief Executive Officer, Billy Lim-it, formally announced the start of registration to the Kimoni Badminton Academy on April 6 to take in hand the need to develop local badminton talents.
The academy, according to Lim-it, serves as a trail blazer in the country for structured badminton training sessions and will be a legitimate ground for local talent search who excel in the sport. Martin Araneta, former coach of the Philippine team, is the institution’s Training Director.

With its training venue at #39 Bingo Street, Sta Mesa Heights, Quezon City, the school offers training courses for the amount of P3,600.00 each to beginners, intermediate and advanced enrollees. Each trainee will get twelve training sessions with free shirt, free use of Kimoni court and shuttlecocks and will be awarded with a Kimoni Badminton Academy Certificate after the training’s completion.

Further details and inquiry can be coursed through Luigi So, Kimoni Philippines’ Director, at telephone number (02) 414-5258.

Davao City in the interim had its record-breaking shuttlers’ conclave when close to four hundred badminton aficionados gathered to witness and partake in the third leg of the Kimoni Badminton Tour 2006 held at 4play Badminton Court last March 18 and 19.

Addressing the participants during the opening, Mozzy Ravena, a distributor of Kimoni badminton products in Davao City and husband of PBA player Bong Ravena, said that it is a great privilege and that it feels wonderful to be hosting the biggest badminton tournament so far in the history of Davao. The two-hour brown out did not hamper the smooth execution of the tournament which, according to Ravena, was the first and only tournament that successfully fielded game schedules on time and finished early at 4 o’clock in the afternoon on its second day despite the huge number of participants.

Seven teams from the cities of Tacurong, Davao, General Santos, Bukidnon, Cagayan De Oro, Tagum and Kidapawan converged to compete for the events’ various levels with categories on doubles for men’s, ladies’, mixed’, juniors’ 16-20 years and juniors’ 15 years and under. Winners of each level and category advance to the Battle of the Champions that will be held in Market! Market on July 22 and 23, with no entry fee, where more than a million pesos in cash and Kimoni products await the deserving winners.

Nikka Sotelo, one of Kimoni Philippines’ Board of Directors, said that Kimoni Badminton Tour 2006’ next stop will be at Tacloban Extreme Badminton Club in Tacloban City on April 8 and 9. Sotelo added that the Davao Leg was successful through the invaluable support of Powerade, Ferbuilt Construction, TEFASCO, Davao City Police Office, HR Fernandez, Sons and Associates, DIMDI, Rosver Pawnshop, Baganga Plywood, 93.1 Croos-over, Smart, Pepsi, Index Jeans, Cats Collection, Shuttlers’ Station, Mindanao Inquirer, Badminton Asia and Mirror Magazine.
