Shuttlers' Showdown in
Kimoni Tour Bacolod Leg
March 6, 2006
By Emma F. Mina

Shuttlers' Haven in Bacolod City turned yellow when participants from Bacolod, Ilo-ilo, Roxas District and Manila wearing their yellow tournament shirts competed in the second leg of the Kimoni Badminton Tour 2006 last March 4, 2006.

Ruel Inciong justified that his trip from Makati, Metro Manila to Bacolod is worth it when he and partner, Ted Jimenez, bagged the crown in the top level of the Men's Doubles division, 15- 8, 15-13, against Mark Antonio and Jobie Limas of Bacolod.

"It was not a walk in the park", said Inciong whose cool apparently wobbled after losing their first match but nonetheless grabbed the victory from behind. "My partner had to restrict me to a high-carbohydrate diet and asked me to just relax here in Bacolod days before the tournament knowing that our opponents are equally tough", related Inciong in the vernacular with a smile right after he received the cash, glass trophy, Kimoni Gift Certificate and the top of the line Kimoni Pinoy Power 888 badminton racket.

In the Level One of the Ladies' Doubles division, the match of Medy Martinez and Hailey Tan versus Jinky Co and Grace Constantino lasted to an hour. A regular badminton match ends in thirty minutes, but the contending pairs proved strong both in the defensive and the offensive side that resulted to long rallies. Co and Constantino, however, found themselves at the heels of Martinez and Tan at the end of the third set due to the consistent offensive play of Tan nailing the record at 15-5, 2-15, 15-4.

Lynette Esico and Reniel Japsay from Roxas District played aggressively in the division of Juniors 16 years old and under all through out their match. Their opponents, John Paul Deanon and Hillary Baje, tried to put up a fearless battle but Esico and Japsay smashed the shuttlecock at every opportunity making them formidable at the summit. The match ended 15:4, 15-4.

One of the highlights of the awarding ceremony was the five thousand pesos worth of Kimoni gift certificate rewarded to Philipp Darocca and Gary Robite from Ilo-ilo as the Best Pair in Kimoni Uniform. Kimoni premium items like jacket and other apparels where raffled off to the delight of the participants who stayed even as the prizes to the level winners have already been awarded.

Kimoni Philippines together with MindWorks who manages the nationwide tour will be seen next at 4play Badminton Court in Davao on March 18 and 19, 2006. The organizers invite those who have joined but did not win to participate in the succeeding legs. They still have the chance to vie for the cash and Kimoni premium items as prizes for the winners in the prestigious Battle of the Champions that will be held on July 22 and 23 at the Market! Market! Activity Center in Fort Bonifacio, Makati.
